وقّعت اليوم مؤسسة ميشال عيسى للتنمية المحلية (MIF) والجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية (LAU) مذكرة تفاهم استراتيجية في مقرّ المؤسسة في عمشيت، إيذانًا بإطلاق شراكة طويلة الأمد تجمع بين خبرات العمل الأهلي والتميّز الأكاديمي، بهدف دفع عجلة التنمية المحلية المستدامة في مختلف المناطق اللبنانية.

وقد وقّع الاتفاق كلّ من طوني عيسى، رئيس مؤسسة ميشال عيسى للتنمية المحلية، وشوقي عبدالله، رئيس الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية، تعبيرًا عن الالتزام المشترك بتعزيز البحث التطبيقي، وإشراك الطلاب، وتنفيذ مبادرات تنموية تتمحور حول المجتمع وتستجيب للاحتياجات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والبيئية والثقافية الفعلية.

من خلال الربط بين التميّز الأكاديمي في LAU والحضور الميداني والخبرة التنموية لمؤسسة MIF، ترسي مذكرة التفاهم منصة تعاون متكاملة تشمل البحث والتعليم والابتكار وخدمة المجتمع. وتهدف الشراكة إلى:

• تعزيز البحث التطبيقي الذي يتناول تحديات التنمية الملحّة، بما في ذلك سبل العيش في المناطق الريفية، والسياحة المستدامة، والتكيّف مع تغيّر المناخ، والتحوّل في قطاع الطاقة، والصحة العامة، والتراث الثقافي.





• تعميق إشراك الطلاب عبر توفير منح دراسية وتدريبات وفرص تعلّم ميداني ضمن مشاريع MIF التنموية.





• دعم تنمية المجتمعات المحلية من خلال تصميم مشاريع تجريبية مشتركة، وإجراء تقييمات للاحتياجات، وحملات توعوية.





• تحفيز الابتكار وريادة الأعمال عبر مسابقات وهاكاثونات وإنشاء "مختبر ابتكار مجتمعي" لدعم الشباب والمبتكرين المحليين.





• تعزيز نقل المعرفة بإعداد مذكّرات سياسات وتقارير ومنشورات مشتركة تُسهم في إرشاد صانعي السياسات وتمكين البلديات والمجتمع المدني.

تولي الشراكة اهتمامًا خاصًا بقضاء جبيل، حيث تنشط مؤسسة MIF منذ عام 2012، مع قابلية التوسّع لتشمل مناطق أخرى. وبموجب هذا التعاون، ستوجّه الأبحاث نحو التطبيق العملي، فيما يسهم الطلاب في ابتكار حلول ملموسة تعزّز صمود المجتمعات المحلية وتنميتها.

وقال الدكتور طوني عيسى: "تُجسّد هذه الاتفاقية رسالتنا في إدخال البحث العلمي الرفيع، وطاقة الشباب، والتفكير الابتكاري إلى صميم عملية التنمية المحلية في لبنان. وبالشراكة مع LAU، نهدف إلى إطلاق مشاريع ذات أثر فعلي، منبثقة من المجتمع المحلي ومستدامة على المدى الطويل".


من جهته، أكّد شوقي عبدالله التزام الجامعة بالمسؤولية المجتمعية قائلاً: "تجسّد هذه الشراكة التزام LAU بربط المعرفة الأكاديمية بحاجات المجتمع، وتُمكّن طلابنا وأعضاء هيئتنا التعليمية من الإسهام بفاعلية في مسار التنمية في لبنان".

Michel Issa Foundation for Local Development (MIF) and the Lebanese American University (LAU) Sign Strategic MoU to Advance Research, Youth Empowerment, and Local Development in Lebanon.

The Michel Issa Foundation for Local Development (MIF) and the Lebanese American University (LAU) signed today a landmark Memorandum of Understanding at MIF headquarters in Amchit, establishing a long-term strategic partnership that brings together the strengths of the NGO sector and academia to advance sustainable local development across Lebanon.

Signed by Dr. Toni Issa, President of MIF, and Dr. Chaouki Abdallah, President of LAU, the agreement reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to foster applied research, student engagement, and community-centered initiatives that respond to real socio-economic, environmental, and cultural needs.

By linking LAU’s academic excellence with MIF’s deep field presence and development experience, the MoU creates a unique platform for collaboration across research, education, innovation, and community outreach. The partnership aims to:

1. Advance Applied Research addressing local socio-economic, environmental, and cultural challenges.
   1. Promote Student Engagement through internships, fieldwork, and scholarships that connect academic learning with community needs.
   1. Strengthen Community Development initiatives that enhance local livelihoods, social inclusion, and sustainability.
   1. Facilitate Knowledge Transfer between academia and communities, ensuring research outputs lead to practical solutions and policy impact.
   
   
   
   
   1. Encourage Innovation and Entrepreneurship by supporting student and community-led initiatives that generate new ideas for development.
   
   
   
   

The partnership places strong emphasis on Jbeil District, where MIF has been active since 2012, but is designed to scale to other regions. Through this collaboration, research will directly inform practice, and students will contribute to the design of tangible solutions for local communities.

“This agreement reinforces our mission to bring high-quality research, youth energy, and innovative thinking to the heart of Lebanon’s local development process,” said Dr. Toni Issa. “By working hand-in-hand with LAU, we aim to create projects that are impactful, community-driven, and sustainable.” 

From LAU’s side, Dr. Chaouki Abdallah emphasized the university’s commitment to civic engagement: “This partnership exemplifies LAU’s dedication to bridging academic knowledge with societal needs. It empowers our students and faculty to contribute meaningfully to Lebanon’s development.”
